Our Impact
CMHA York Region South Simcoe is an award-winning, multidisciplinary community mental health agency, which every year supports more than 20,000 individuals aged 12 years and older, providing specialized care from assertive community treatment and early psychosis intervention, to court diversion, case management, housing first and supportive housing, specialized youth care, gender affirming health clinic, psycho-social rehabilitation – employment, peer support, occupational therapy, and social recreational activities – cognitive behavioural therapy, and clinical therapy.
Since 1984, our team of staff, volunteers, and donors have supported community-based mental health services and the recovery from mental illness and addictions. We believe in improving access to care by reducing wait times and reaching underserved communities, and embracing bold innovation and thought leadership to better understand the needs in our community in order to develop new solutions and the strong partnerships required to deliver on our vision of Mental Health for All.
How your gift will be used
Your gift will support innovative ideas and programs that create transformational change in the lives of those living with mental illness, and those supporting loved ones living with mental illness and addiction.
At CMHA-YRSS, innovation is our driving force, and we are prepared to try new things and take risks in our relentless pursuit of mental health for all.
Why does innovation matter?
Mental health challenges will affect one in two Canadians in their lifetime. We aim to support the individual, their family and their caregivers to achieve optimal mental health in a way that works for them. We continually develop and introduce new programs and services specific to the diverse needs of all the communities we serve.
Our team doesn’t shy away from these challenges, we thrive on them. Take a look at just a few of the big issues we are tackling with new thinking and a mentality of bravery, accessibility, and inclusivity.
- York Region’s First 24/7 Mental Health Community Care Hub
- First known Gender Affirming Health Clinic
- Newcomers’ Health and Wellbeing Program
- MOBYSS – Mobile York South Simcoe, Ontario’s first mobile (and also virtual) mental health clinic for youth 12-25
Our staff, volunteers, and partners are encouraged to be bold, to try things that have never been tried before. When things don’t work out as expected, we learn. And when a wild idea succeeds, we celebrate and ask, what’s next?
